The short answer: Install ZecBooks, choose Open Proof Pack / Reader, unlock the pack with the passphrase you were given, and review the scoped rows. Do not ask for the sender’s UFVK.

Install ZecBooks for Mac
Use the official download. You do not need a viewing key to review a pack.
Open Proof Pack Reader
From welcome or the menu, open the pack file you received.
Unlock with the shared passphrase
Enter the passphrase the sender provided out of band. If it fails, ask them to resend the passphrase — not their UFVK.
Read only what was shared
You will see the scoped rows and disclosure. You will not get spend authority or the rest of their vault.
If the pack expired
Ask the sender for a fresh export with a new expiry. Do not work around expiry by demanding raw CSV of the whole vault unless that is an explicit, separate agreement.
Common mistakes
- Asking the client for a seed “so we can sync ourselves.”
- Forwarding the unlocked view as screenshots into a group chat.
- Treating Reader as a wallet.
